Becoming an Investee

SDSVP is committed to giving time, money, and expertise to create partnerships with nonprofit organizations called Investees.
SDSVP Investees are tax exempt, charitable, not-for-profit organizations.

SDSVP supports organizations that:

• Are addressing a critical social problem and demonstrating an innovative approach to accomplishing change.
• Are seeking to launch, expand or replicate an innovative program.
• Have the ability to make use of and interact with SVP's volunteer and professional resources.
• Have a long-term perspective on their organization's impact.
• Are willing to evaluate their programs and measure their outcomes.
• Are community oriented and collaborative, involving volunteers and other organizations and coordinating their services with others serving the same populations.

Giving Priorities

• SDSVP makes initial investments with the intent of establishing long-term relationships with its Investees. At the end of the first year of funding, the relationship with each Investee is reviewed and evaluated for ongoing financial and volunteer support.
• Depending on each Investee's status, the relationship would involve 3+ years of funding and volunteer support.  Our objective is to help develop the organizational capacity and sustainability of each organization we support, so that each organization has a greater positive impact on individuals and the community.

SDSVP/Investee Partnerships: Time and Money

SDSVP funds organizations that embrace a partnership that includes volunteer involvement by SDSVP Partners. Our Investees are organizations with strong leadership and a clear strategic vision, where we can help build the organization's infrastructure by supplying an infusion of human and financial resources.

Some of the areas where SDSVP has provided Partner or consultant-led capacity building are:

• Strategic planning
• Replication/expansion of a program/organization
• Board development
• Marketing planning
• Fund and revenue development planning
• Volunteer management
• Organizational capacity micro-Loans
• Financial and sustainability planning
• Information technology planning and implementation

Most Partners also bring a perspective that makes them good one-on-one coaches and mentors for Executive Directors and/or Board Chairs. Many Partners can also access other resources through their companies and businesses.

Eligibility

Investee organizations must serve communities in the San Diego geographic area, have charitable status, and must serve in the area of focus as described by SDSVP at that time.  It is the sole and exclusive right of SDSVP to select its Investees without liability or recourse to SDSVP.

Grant requests from individuals, sports teams, or organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, or physical ability will not be considered.
SDSVP also will not make grants intended to support candidates for political office, auctions or fundraising events, debt reduction, endowment funds or capital campaigns, litigation or legal expenses, land acquisition, or performances.
