Our investments

In 2007-2008, SDSVP chose to support two organizations that deliver services focused on the Aging Population in San Diego. We believe these two investees, if taken to scale, will have significant impact in San Diego and will:

  • Create innovative, effective and sustainable services or programs in the San Diego region
  • Incorporate and commit to SDSVP mentorship support to build and strengthen their organization's internal capacity resulting in increased services
  • Measure and evaluate their outcomes showing evidence of effective and benchmarking the long term impact of their work
  • Demonstrate high degrees of level of leadership and competence among key staff members

Our commitment

SDSVP funds only those organizations that are open to and can benefit from a partnership that includes volunteer involvement by SDSVP Partners.

SDSVP funds organizations with strong leadership and clear strategic vision, where we can contribute to the organization's infrastructure by supplying an infusion of human and financial resources.

Our financial commitment to an investee is currently $ 100,000 and 3 to 6 times that in in-kind services to each investee  over three years.

SDSVP Partners also provide a range of talents and professional skills to offer the non-profit organizations with which we work. Based on the non-profit's specific needs, we provide knowledge and know-how in areas such as:

- Strategic Planning
- Finance
- Information technology and knowledge sharing
- Marketing & Public Relations
- Fund raising
- Board development and governance
- Cause marketing campaigns
- Staff leadership training and skills development
- Technical Assistance
- Management and operations
Estimates of this in-kind volunteer support has been estimated to be an equivalent of $ 300,000 to $600,000 over the three year investment cycle.

Investment Focus Area

SDSVP chooses a focus area for its investments/grants each year. This is our 8th investment cycle, and our focus this year is on Children and Youth in San Diego County. Prior year's grants were in the area of parental education, financial literacy, employment development for disadvantaged youth, and the environment. We will continue to diversify our focus on other key areas for the San Diego region in future investment cycles.
